Labor Day Getaway
Before our schedules got too hectic, my family made one last escape to say farewell to summer. We just returned from a blissful weekend at River’s Edge Cottages in SE Oklahoma. Sad to admit, I’ve never visited this part of the state, and it’s gorgeous. Chris and I kept joking, “Is this really Oklahoma?” We highly recommend River’s Edge Cottages. This is definitely how my family “roughs it” in the wilderness. We plan to go back – perhaps when it’s a wee bit cooler. You can check out more about River’s Edge Cottages at the end of this post.
So, you ask, what did we do over Labor Day?
We were crazy & we laughed . . . a lot. (Just ask my sister about her incident with a bike & a tree. I think the tree won. Regardless, neither will be the same. Or, ask my Dad about folding dirty laundry.)
The kids (and some adults) enjoyed dips of delight in the hot tub and the river. Canoeing too but I didn’t want to get the camera wet.
We celebrated being together as a family.
We played oodles of games, frisbee, basketball, ladder ball, volleyball & horseshoes too . . . impressive three-ringer, Dad!!
We hiked along the river, just a few steps from our cabin.
And . . . we rested.
If you can’t already tell by the length of this post, I played with our camera. I was fascinated by these beautiful flowers. Only God can pull this off.

Here’s a peek at our spacious cabin, Homestead. As my mom said, every detail was meticulously appointed including antiques, a piano & wonderful books stocked in every room. We just wished we would’ve had more time to read them.

awesome pictures! We stayed in a cabin in the winter with some friends who were born/raised in SE OK. I was shocked with the beauty too. Mountains, trees, etc. Not at all like Shawnee :)
